How to Cure a Violin Hickey
What causes the dreaded violin hickey? Simple. Rub a piece of hard wood against any part of your body for 30 minutes. Now, do that every day for a week. Guess what will happen. That’s right, you’ll have a reddish colored bruise. In the violin world we call it a violin hickey. Imagine if you play for an hour a day for a couple of years.
Fortunately, there’s an easy cure: put gel on your chinrest.
Each GelRest is made of a special Gel material that has the feel and texture of our own human skin, so it’s no wonder they make your instrument comfortable. It is truly form-fitting, and makes any violin chinrest feel like it’s custom made to fit your chin. You really have to feel it to believe it!
We have made many improvements to the Gelrest over the years (over 40,000 sold to date), and that includes our adhesive. Adhesives need to stick tightly, but also allow for easy removal. Our current adhesive is getting great reviews and we back it with an unconditional guarantee (see below). And, while they stick tightly, you will find that GelRests are also easy to remove.
We make GelRests in 7 separate shapes, which are matched to the 7 most popular violin chin rests: Strad, Guarneri, Teka, Flat Flesch, Berber (Ohrenform), Kaufman, and Guarneri 1/2 size.
That’s why a GelRest blends in so nicely with the look of a violin or viola. Like the Guarneri violin chin rest (pictured below) with matching Rosewood GelRest. Comfortable, yet elegant. It blends in so well, you don’t even notice that it’s there!

GelRests can be trimmed as well. Use scissors or a razor knife.
GelRests are not slippery, even when wet, so holding your instrument is comfortable and effortless, whether it’s a hot summer day or a cool autumn night.
Models and Sizes: GelRest’s are specially colored to match the 3 traditional woods for violin fittings: Ebony, Boxwood, and Rosewood. We also have a selection of colors and patterns that will surprise you. Click here to visit our store.
To Clean: GelRest is easy to clean, especially because dirt and sweat don’t get absorbed, but stay on top where they can be easily wiped off. We recommend clean the GelRest in place. Just wipe occasionally with a streak-free ammonia-based cleaner like Windex.
Durability: A GelRest indeed is very comfortable, but also very durable. The gel does not compress or flatten over time.
Guarantee: We guarantee the GelRest to be free from defects for a period of one year from the purchase date. In addition, if the purchaser is not satisfied with the product for any reason within 90 days of purchase, you may return it to us for a full refund. Refund of shipping cost is not included. Proof of purchase must be supplied to receive a cash refund.
